San Marco Space 1345 – Venezia-Italy
Bacaro Lounge Bar & Restaurant
With Andrea Avezzù, Paola Casanova, and David Salvadori, I co-curated an exhibition space named “Photographic Gallery Bacaro” at La Gondola Club from 2005 to 2009.
The gallery was situated in the expansive and elegant premises of Bacaro Lounge Bar & Restaurant, right in the heart of Venice, just a stone’s throw away from the most beautiful square in the world: St. Mark’s Square.
During this period, we hosted presentations and exhibitions featuring both contemporary and historical photographers, offering the Venetian and international audience a wonderful opportunity to explore the tradition and current trends in photography.
For the inaugural exhibition, we utilized photographs from the club’s archives. Subsequently, we invited La Gondola Club members and photographer friends to submit works related to specific themes. The photos, sized 30 by 40, were either unpublished or sourced from personal portfolios and were selected with the condition that those exhibited would be donated to the club’s archives.

Venice in the 1950s and 1960s
Vintage Photographs from “La Gondola” Circle
“The exhibition showcases about fifty images, mainly in black and white, vintage prints of various sizes carefully selected from the Historical Archive of La Gondola Circle. These pictures depict the environments, people, and Venetian atmosphere of the 1950s and 1960s. They capture genuine everyday life in a personal, sometimes humorous, and occasionally romantic way, forming an affectionate documentation of memories from those seemingly distant years, preserving a glimpse of a bygone era.” –

Food-Food Free
Interpretations of the Relationship with Food
“Everything that lives, eats…” the authors establish a personal and subjective relationship with the theme of food, offering a nuanced perspective that describes emotions, needs, illusions, and characteristic elements of our contemporary culture. 39 black and white and color photographs range from documenting ancient food production methods to representing its symbolic value, from its role as a commodity to becoming a conduit of memories and affections, and the identification of social contexts, as well as some ironic provocations.

ART&PHOTOGRAPHY
Artistic Photographs: Artists, Protagonists, and Spectators – The Presence of Art in Everyday Life
ART&PHOTOGRAPHY is an exhibition featuring 50 images in black/white and color that represent various perspectives of “artistic photography.” The viewpoint is that of the photographer and their personal relationship with the presence of art, whether it is captured in its conventional forms and locations or discovered in unusual places and moments. The collection includes photographs of artworks in their settings (museums, Biennials, installations); portraits of artists and key figures in various art forms or performances; art observed by the public (interested, distracted, admiring, or indifferent); and images where the photographic eye captures unexpected elements, revealing “artistic” aspects of everyday situations or considered minor forms.

Italian Postcards
A brief journey into the visual imagery of our country
“When we say postcards, we immediately think of conventional views and tourist stereotypes: however, every landscape image conceals an idea of the landscape, and illustrated postcards have always reflected the constant evolution of the Italian visual imagination. The concept of this photographic exhibition originated from the hypothesis that the authors have engaged with the geographic and anthropological environment of Italy, intending to create a wholly personal “postcard.”

Made in Italy Contemporary Pinhole Photography
The fifth exhibition at Bacaro is dedicated to pinhole (or pinhole*) photography. The literal translation is “pinhole” as it involves a shooting technique that does not use a lens (or rather an objective), but only a small hole, a few millimeters in size, placed on the front of the camera, often made with the tip of a needle. Through this hole, light passes through it and creates an impression on the film or paper. Another uniqueness of this technique is the use of self-built cameras made from various materials such as wood, paper, cardboard, Lego, and iron.

Person The Human
Presence in Images by Women Photographers
Nineteen women photographers present a collection of images that focus on the human presence, with the individual as the subject of their gaze and photographic reflection. They narrate emotions and relationships, explore matters of image, identity, and the body, and speak of history and memory. These are moments of our own lives, but also of other human experiences – informal portraits that unveil an intimate connection between photographer and subject, self-portraits that seek meaning in the relationship between oneself and objects, between external and internal spaces.

Distant and Close Gazes
Photographs by
Cesare Gerolimetto, Sergio Moro and Emilio Zangiacomi Pompanin
The images of Sergio Moro, mostly vintage prints, reflect a keen eye for capturing special moments of the Venetian environment, enhanced by black and white printing that confers suggestive atmospheres. Gerolimetto exhibits views of various places around the world where his profession as a reporter and professional photographer has taken him; his work stands out for the originality and quality of vivid and saturated color prints on cotton paper. Zangiacomi presents a series of color photographs with unusual themes that reveal fine details, macro effects, and almost invisible movements, printed on high-quality digital prints. All three authors have personally curated the printing of their images.
