The theme of this exhibition is unquestionably engaging and involves the close connection that, since the founding of La Gondola, its members have had with the art world or, rather, creativity wherever it appears. This special attention has been fostered by the uniqueness of the Venetian environment but also a special attitude, a genetic predisposition since Paolo Monti, to try one’s strength with other figurative expressions. The exhibition includes portraits of some among the leading artists operating in Venice over the years (Guidi, Carena, De Chirico, Vedova) as well as minor day-to-day aspects of different creativity, like murales or wall graffiti. The Gondola photographers also investigate official art establishments, like “Venice Biennali” and Museums, sometimes taking in the curious relationship between works of art and their public, sometimes using their photographic vision to reveal unusual and stimulating aspects of the works on show. Architecture too has a strong presence in the exhibition both with outstanding and minor examples, the latter providing surprising perspectives. Finally, leaving aside the vexed debate about the complex relationship between photography and painting, it is really creativity which brings them together, overcoming the limits of the “mechanical” characteristic of the medium and it is only the author’s project which takes the credit for the outcome.
